DRAFT, pending legal review. This is a plain-language placeholder while Lumi is in a small, invite-only beta. It is not final and may change before launch.
Lumi makes bedtime stories for children, and it is used by grown-ups: parents, guardians, and family members they invite. We try to collect as little as possible, especially about children.
What we collect from grown-ups
- Your email address, to send sign-in links, beta updates, and family invitations.
- Your name and family name, as you type them, so the people you invite know who you are.
- Story ideas and story text you write or edit, and the stories, pictures and narration Lumi makes from them.
What we collect about children
Only what a parent or guardian enters:
- a first name or nickname, and
- an age band (for example 5–6), not a birthday.
We do not collect children’s voices or audio recordings, photos, precise location, contact details, or school. Children don’t have accounts, can’t chat with anyone, and don’t type into Lumi. Please don’t put other personal details about a child into a story idea.
Parents stay in control
- Only a parent or guardian can add a child, pair a child’s tablet, or invite family.
- A parent reads and approves every story before it appears on a child’s bookshelf. Invited family members can write stories, but only a parent can publish them.
- A parent can remove a child, a paired tablet, or a family member at any time.
How we use it
Only to run Lumi: signing you in, making and showing your family’s stories, and writing to you about the beta. We don’t sell or share personal information for advertising, and there are no ads, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics. Before launch, this page will name any outside services that help make stories.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
Lumi is meant to be set up and managed by parents and guardians. We aim to collect only the minimum about children described above, and only from a parent. If you believe a child has given us personal information directly, please email us and we will delete it.
Seeing or deleting your data
To see what we hold, or to ask us to delete your account, a child’s details, or your email from the waitlist, email [email protected]. Parents can ask us to delete their child’s information at any time.
Changes
This draft will be replaced by a reviewed policy before Lumi opens more widely. We’ll update this page when that happens.
